October 18th, 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of International Credit Union Day – and The Co-op Credit Union is joining thousands of credit unions all over the world in celebrating our history and success of the “People-not-Profit” philosophy.
Andrew Davey, Operations Manager of The Co-op Credit Union said:
“we’re proud to be part of a global movement of nearly 70,000 Credit Unions in over 100 countries. The 70thanniversary of ICU Day, and our own 20thAnniversary this year reflect the important heritage of credit unions in providing fair and affordable financial services to their members. We’re passionate about the valuable economic and social contribution that credit unions make to their communities, and the 70thanniversary is a time to celebrate the global impact of the movement.”
Celebrated each year on the third Thursday of October, the theme for this year’s International Credit Union Day is “Find Your Platinum Lining”, combining the traditional gift of platinum for 70th anniversaries, a play on the saying “every cloud has a silver lining” and a celebration of the platinum-lined differences and impact credit union and other financial co-operatives have made, and continue to make, for their members and communities.
Brian Branch, World Council President and CEO, said:
“This year we are celebrating 70 years of ICU Day and we celebrate that our global movement historically goes back much further, enriching the lives of many over the years. ICU Day is the opportunity to engage credit union members, share their experiences and celebrate with the growing global credit union community.”
