Our own workers Katie and Matthew have just come back from their Development Educators UK course (see photo). It went really well – they learnt lots & made loads of new contacts in the credit union movement. Each year people from all parts of the credit union system in the UK, Ireland and beyond, learn from each other and share knowledge, experience and resources with a common goal of ensuring that the credit union movement continues to grow and meet more of our members needs, as well as provide opportunities for those people with fewer financial choices.
Credit Union Development Education has been around as a concept for over 28 years. Founded in the USA in 1982 the programme concentrated on developing credit unions and was open to everyone from the credit union sector. The DEUK programme focuses on peer to peer learning and using education to increase awareness of the unique role that credit unions play throughout Britain and around the world. It is open to people from all parts of the credit union system including support organisations over 200 people have experienced the opportunity to develop through the programme. Participants are welcome from the United Kingdom and any credit union sector throughout the world. Over 184 million people world-wide are members of credit unions and through this programme participants gain a better understanding on how to develop their credit union or organisation serving credit unions.
