We’re looking forward to celebrating International Credit Union Day today (Thursday 15th October) alongside credit unions around the world. It’s celebrated by over 57,000 credit unions in over 100 countries around the world. The theme this year is simple, lovely and sums up exactly what credit unions stand for, “People Helping People”.
Credit unions aren’t just about saving and borrowing, they provide a financial community. Credit unions do provide great, safe savings products and competitive, responsible loans too and they’re accessible to all.
As co-operatives credit unions have no third party shareholders so all members are not only owners but also mutually benefit from all profits made. Plus they live and breathe the co-operative values and principles which means they truly care about the communities they are in. It really is that simple and beautiful.
They’re recognised as a force for positive economic and social change and people have helped people across the world in both developed and emerging nations. What a great thing to celebrate.
Happy International Credit Union Day!
