Energy Debt Help

If you’re struggling with money and energy debt, you are not alone. The British Gas Energy Trust is an independent charitable trust set up to support families and individuals who are struggling to pay their bills across England, Wales and Scotland, no matter which energy company you are with.

Individual & Families Debt Write Off fund

The fund is open to British Gas & Non British Gas customers alike with an energy debt between £250 and £1500 – the debt must apply to your primary residence and must be an active energy account.

Applicants must:
– Live in England, Scotland or Wales
– Not have savings over £1,000
– Have received money advice – this will be asked for as part of the process, this will be considered alongside household outgoings to determine if the applicant is in or at risk of fuel poverty.
– Have not received a grant from BGET in the last 2 years
– Proof of income will be required as part of the application process.
– Open to both Credit and PPM customer with a previous outstanding credit account debt
– Household Income £16,190 (although for households with 3+ children, Caring responsibilities or disabilities a higher income will be considered)

Energy Support Fund – Opens on the 12th September 2022

The fund will be open to British Gas customers with an energy debt of £250 – £1500. The debt must apply to your primary residence and must be an active energy account

Applicants must:
– Live in England, Scotland or Wales
– Have not received a grant from BGET in the last 12 months
– Open to both Credit and PPM customers with a previous outstanding credit account debt
Whilst there is not an income threshold, the average household income for successful grant applicants was c.£21,000 per annum – the assessor will be looking for evidence that the applicant is in or at risk of fuel poverty.

Please note: Proof of income will be required at the point of application (you will be asked to have this to hand before they apply) , this will be considered alongside household outgoings to determine if you are in or at risk of fuel poverty.
