“I initially joined the Co-op Credit Union Credit Committee because I was looking for a volunteering opportunity that would benefit from the experience and knowledge I’d obtained during my time with the Co-op.  I soon came to realise that the culture of credit unions was an ideal match with my personal ethos and was delighted that I’d made the choice to become more involved”

The opportunity to join the Board came at a perfect time.  The increased level of maturity around lending approval has resulted – correctly – in a reduction in the requirement for assistance from the credit committee, and I had been wondering how I could maintain my previous levels of involvement and help to influence the future direction of the credit union. Being elected to the Board helps me fulfil that ambition.

I started working at the Co-operative Insurance Society in February 1988 and have subsequently worked for the Group and now the Bank.  I’m proud to say that I’m now in my 32nd year of Co-operative employment, as a Cost Reporting Analyst in the Finance Department at the Co-operative Bank, and have been a member of The Co-op Credit Union since around 2000.

I’ve had a varied career with The Co-operative, having been involved in both Life and General Insurance policy management in the early years followed by long stints in the Risk & Compliance and in IT functions.  My role in those last two functions was heavily focused on financial management and analysis and it is there where I believe my specialism lies, ultimately leading to my relatively recent move into the Bank’s Finance function.
