Who can join?

Membership of The Co-op Credit Union is open to employees and pensioners of a wide range of co-operative organisations, as well as members of a number of co-ops, including Co-op Food Store members and Usdaw union members. See the full eligibility lists further below.

Not eligible yet?

Don’t worry! – anyone can join The Co-op Food online, making them then eligible for Co-op Credit Union membership. Joining The Co-op Food Membership scheme costs £1, and you can earn rewards for you and your community.

(Note -we are a separate organisation to The Co-op Food, so you’ll need to join the credit union once you have your Co-op Food membership number).

You can join The Co-op Credit Union if you are employed by or are a member of one of the organisations listed below:

In accordance with our privacy policy, we will use a third party database to verify your identity when you apply to join the credit union. We are required to verify your identity by law.  If we can’t independently verify you, we may also require you to submit documentation to support your application. .

All loan applications are subject to our Loan Approval Policy. Members who have been declined for a loan with us in the last 3 months are not eligible to apply. We will check your credit history and assess the affordability of loan repayments by reviewing your bank account(s). We may also request additional supporting information depending upon your circumstances, such as payslips, ID documents or immigration paperwork. All lending decisions are ultimately at the discretion of our team. We always do our best to say “yes” but unfortunately that is not always possible. We will be happy to provide information about how we made any decision upon request.
