Spring is traditionally the time for new beginnings –and it’s a great time to give your finances a fresh start too.
Give our spring money-saving tips a go and see how much you could save.
And, when you’re done, why not stash the savings in your credit union savings account and start building up a nest egg for a rainy day?
Soothe the Christmas spending hangover
With the extra costs of the festive season, many of us are still feeling the after-effects well into the New Year as the monthly credit card bills continue to land or the overdraft charges start to add up. If you’re not paying off your balance in full each month, it could be cheaper to move your debts to a low-cost credit union loan at a lower rate of interest and spread repayments out over a time to suit you. Check out our consolidation loans to see if we could save you money.
Put your detective hat on
Could you have old subscriptions lurking that you don’t use any more? You might be surprised… How about that free trial Amazon Prime membership that you forgot to cancel or an annual warranty for an appliance you no longer even have? Now’s the time to check out your latest bank statements, either paper or online, root out those unnecessary fees and get them cancelled.
No need to switch to save
You probably know that you can get a better deal if you shop around for things like broadband and mobile phone packages or insurance. However, did you know that often you don’t have to actually move providers to get the same big discounts? Just asking your current provider what their best deals are can be enough to get serious savings in return for a few minutes of your time. Researching competitors prices on price comparison websites beforehand will put you in an even stronger position to negotiate the very best deal with your current provider who may be able to price match to keep your business. If not, then you know what to do!
Only pay for what you really use
Are you paying for extras that you don’t really need? Mobile phone contracts are a common example – visit https://www.billmonitor.com to see if you’re on the right contract for you based on your actual usage. Or how about that gym membership – if you only to classes and never use the pool, is there a different rate you can get? It pays to ask!
